Historic Renovation, Whiskey Row
Installing Helical Piles
Installing Helical Piles
Whiskey Row is the rehabilitation of part of the historical distillery district in Louisville, Kentucky. Prior to the renovation, the City of Louisville had condemned this row of buildings. For a century plus, the small distilleries have been located along the Ohio River and that history is being preserved.
Soils at this location were atypical for river bank site. This particular site had 10 -14 feet of old fill before reached poor/medium dense sand.
Based on the sub-surface conditions and the design requirements, we installed fifty (50) 8-10-12 helical piles. The helicals were installed between 50 to 85 feet. CNC Foundations performed 1 full scale load test and 2 plate load tests to validate the installation. These tests were overseen and reviewed by GEM Engineering.
