CNC Foundations was approached to install Vibratory Stone Columns (VSCs) for ground improvement for a five-story office building in Jessup, MD. The 400 National Business project required diligent planning and execution to address the site’s challenging ground conditions due to large amounts of new and existing fill.
The 400 National Business Park project involved the installation of Vibratory Stone Columns (VSCs) underneath the footings of a five-story office building located in Jessup, MD. The challenging aspect of the project stemmed from the stiff Fat Clay soils on the site, necessitating pre-augering at all VSC locations to ensure full support. The design called for the installation of over 300 Vibratory Stone Columns, totaling over 4000 linear feet. Although the drilling process posed difficulties and some breakdowns occurred, causing minor delays, the testing yielded expected results.
